Missile Defense Agency Japan Flight Test-3 Video(0)
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), in cooperation with the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the U.S. Navy, will conduct an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) intercept flight test at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), off the coast of Kauai in Hawaii. The event, designated Japan Flight Test Mission 3 (JFTM-3), marks the third time that a JMSDF ship will demonstrate the sea-based midcourse ballistic missile defense capability provided by Aegis BMD.
Japan Renews Sanctions on North Korea
Japan will renew economic sanctions on Pyongyang, following North Korea’s rocket launch. Japan and the United States are pushing the United Nations Security Council to condemn the launch, which they say was a cover-up to test a long-range missile, but any new resolution seems unlikely.

Japan said it will request an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council if North Korea proceeds with plans to launch a rocket in the coming days.

Top leaders in South Korea and the United States have all but dismissed the use of military means to interfere with North Korea’s launch of a long-range rocket, believed to be just days away. Many observers are now watching to see if Japan will make good on contingency plans to shoot down the rocket.
