India-US Military Relations Growing Rapidly(0)
For decades, India mostly depended on, first, the Soviet Union and then Russia for its military supplies. But as the Cold War ended and India’s relations with the United States began improving during Bill Clinton’s presidency, New Delhi gradually increased its military cooperation with Washington. Both New Delhi and Washington have said their relationship is not aimed against India’s arch-rival Pakistan. Today, besides holding joint military exercises with the U.S. military, India has also been buying U.S. armaments worth billions of dollars.
India Begins Trials to Select Air Force Combat Jets
In India, trials have begun to select a fighter aircraft for the country’s air force. Six aircraft manufacturers are in the race to win what will be one of the world’s biggest defense contracts worth billions of dollars.
India Warns of Militants Plotting New Attacks
India says that militants based in Pakistan are plotting new attacks in the country. Indian authorities are also promising tough action against Maoist insurgents, who they say represent another serious threat to the country’s security.

Police fired teargas canisters to disperse a crowd of rowdy youths staging anti-India protests Friday in the capital of India-controlled Kashmir.
