Spc. Erik Oropeza received the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroic actions while assigned to B Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division during combat near Taji, Iraq on May 22, 2007.
Medal Recipient Chooses Third Iraq Tour
Army Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Nein didn’t have to come back. He served in Iraq twice before and was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for his actions as a squad leader under fire. If anyone could have gotten a pass, it was Nein. But he wouldn’t take it.
