Afghan National Security Forces, International Security Assistance Force Assist in Removal of Unexploded Ordnance in Jalalabad

Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Force soldiers worked to ensure the safety of Afghan citizens in northwest Jalalabad today. They assisted the weapons removal and abatement program in a controlled detonation to remove dangerous unexploded ordnance.

The ordnance posed a safety hazard and was the remnants left over after an explosion yesterday at a weapons bunker in Jalalabad. Monday’s incident killed two Afghans, and injured 16 others, including two Afghan national army soldiers.

The bunker, located at an ANA outpost, was part of the WRA program, which works to remove and dispose of dangerous weapons after armed conflicts.

ISAF soldiers trained in explosive ordnance disposal, and several ANA soldiers responded to the blast yesterday to begin the process of clearing unexploded ordnance and preparing for the controlled detonation today.
