ISF, NP’s confiscate weapons throughout Baghdad

Iraqi Security Forces and National Police partner with Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers to seize weapons and munitions throughout Baghdad Jan. 10 - 11.
 
 At approximately 2 p.m., in Baghdad’s Rashid district Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 24th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, partnered with Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B, confiscated three AK-47 assault rifles from three different houses while conducting a clearance operation and hauled the weapons to their headquarters Jan. 10.
 
 Members of 3rd Bn., 2nd Bde., 1st NP Division, conducted a combined patrol with Soldiers from Co. C, 1st Bn., 21st Inf. Regt., 2nd Stryker Bde. Combat Team, 25th Inf. Div., MND-B, and discovered a cache containing materials to make an improvised explosive device at approximately 11 a.m. in northwest Baghdad Jan. 11. 
 
 The cache consisted of 10 projectile fuses, one bag of propellant, one bag of small arms rounds, two 130 mm high explosive projectiles and one 122 mm HE projectiles. An explosive ordnance disposal team arrived on site at approximately 2:50 p.m. and conducted a control detonation.
 
 At approximately 12:10 p.m., IA Soldiers from 1st Co., 1st Bn., 24th Bde., 6th IA Div., partnered with Co. B, 1st Bn., 22nd Inf. Reg., 4th Inf. Div., MND-B, arrested a suspected insurgent found with a fake identification card, bomb making materials and CDs allegedly containing insurgent plans during security operations in Baghdad’s Rashid district.
 
 At approximately 2 p.m., Iraqi NP patrolmen from the 3rd Bn., 5th Bde., 2nd NP Div., partnered with Co. D, 1st Bn., 22nd Inf. Regt., 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B, reported confiscating an unexploded artillery round during security operations in Rashid’s Shurta community. The patrol moved the round to a nearby NP headquarters for disposal by an EOD team.
 
 Coalition forces, ISF and NP’s conduct combined operations everyday to provide a safe and secure environment throughout Baghdad. MND-B Soldiers provide an over watch as the Iraqi security enforces Baghdad’s ‘Weapons-Free’ Policy, a recent initiative by the Government of Iraq to keep guns and munitions off the streets in support of Baghdad’s Rule of Law.
