The Marine Corps JAG whose revelations of how the Commandant of the Marine Corps got involved in the investigation into the incident where Marines urinated on Taliban corpses lead to a finding of unlawful command influence is now being targeted by the Marine Corps.
According to a report by the Washington Times, Maj. James Weirick has been transferred to a training assignment, had his computer seized, and was made the subject of a risk assessment. The retaliation came after he urged another Marine to cooperate with investigators.
“The Marine Corps has taken legitimate steps as the result of a recent incident that is unrelated to his previous protected communications,” Col. Sean Gibson, a spokesman at Quantico Marine Corps Base said.
Weirick tipped off defense attorneys about the involvement of General John Amos in trying to ensure that Marines who were videotaped urinating on dead Taliban were court-martialed and discharged. Charges against the Marines were eventually dropped.
