UKRAINIAN FORCES DESTROY RUSSIAN ARMORED VEHICLES
Ukrainian forces destroyed around 20 Russian armored vehicles that had crossed into the country’s territory. The incident comes as tensions between Russia and the Ukraine increased and a Russian “aid convoy” was waiting near the border.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Petro Poroshenko, the new President of the Ukraine, informed British Prime Minister David Cameron that artillery had destroyed the Russian vehicles. Previously, the London Telegraph and the London Guardian had both reported that Russian armored vehicles were entering the Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the “relief convoy” of over 250 trucks has halted near the border, awaiting officials from the Red Cross to process the supplies. The supplies were intended for Eastern Ukraine, which has been the scene of fighting between pro-Russian separatist rebels who are receiving support from Moscow, and the Ukrainian government.
The crisis in the Ukraine began after former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was forced out of office by violent protests. After Yanukovych’s ouster, Russia seized Crimea, and began supporting separatists in the eastern portion of the Ukraine.
