Islamist Erdogan Denounces Removal
By Harold Hutchison

Turkey’s Islamist government has denounced the removal of Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood-lead government from power in Egypt. Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, also an Islamist, was widely viewed as being close to Morsi.

Ergodan said the removal was “unacceptable, no matter what the reasons” in a statement quoted by the Associated Press. However, in this case, the Turkish opposition also condemned the removal of Morsi, saying, “staging a military coup to design societies is not a correct thing in the 21st century and it shouldn’t be accepted.”

Turkey’s Islamist government has been the target of massive protests in recent weeks, not only over its promotion of Islam, but also for its crackdown on dissent.
