Interview with an Interrogator: Megyn Kelly Gets the Scoop

By Roger Aronoff
Accuracy in Media

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly got a big interview this week following the release of the Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA interrogations in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001. It was compelling TV, and journalism. Dr. James Mitchell, a former Air Force psychologist, contracted with the CIA to help develop a program to interrogate CIA detainees while America, and those tasked to protect this country, prepared for a second wave of attacks.

Mitchell had spoken with the British newspaper, The Guardian, back in April, after an executive summary of the Senate Intelligence report had been leaked to McClatchy News. At the time, as reported by The Guardian, Mitchell “mounted a full-throated defense of the Bush administration's counter-terrorism policies and attacked ‘partisan Democrats’ for ‘throwing me under the bus’ and ‘rewriting history.’” Now he clearly feels even more free to speak out.

Obama Exchanges Castro’s Killer for American Hostage

By Cliff Kincaid

Communists are ecstatic. “The Cuban Five Are Free” is a statement from the U.S. support network for the Cuban spies imprisoned in the U.S. for various crimes, including participating in a murder conspiracy.

Obama essentially released the three remaining Cuban spies in exchange for American Alan Gross, who had been held hostage by the Cuban regime for over five years. Gross was a foreign aid worker imprisoned by the Castro regime for trying to help ordinary Cubans communicate with the outside world. President Obama confirmed the role of Pope Francis, a vocal critic of Western-style capitalism, in the deal.

Dozens Killed in Taliban Attack
By SOF

A Beslan-style attack on a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, has left at least 126 people dead with over 100 wounded. The slaughter comes the day after a sixteen-hour siege in Sydney, Australia that left two people dead.

According to reports by VOA News, Fox News, and CBN, the school was attacked by at least six murder-suicide bombers aligned with Tehreek-e-Taliban, or the Pakistani Taliban, in what is being described as the worst attack in over a year. Nearby military units responded to the attack, and Pakistani troops have exchanged fire with the terrorists before securing control of the school.

IS AN ATTACK INSPIRED BY ISIS A CERTAINTY?

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, Mike Morrell, who served as acting Director of Central Intelligence during the Obama Administration, made the statement while being interviewed by CBS News.

Benghazi Congressional Investigations Roll On, Barely

By Roger Aronoff
Accuracy in Media

The latest hearing by the House Select Committee on Benghazi was held on December 10th, as Congress is about to head out the door for Christmas. The hearing was unfortunately still focused on the far-from-independent State Department Accountability Review Board. It’s time to move on. There is plenty to investigate. The critics of any further investigation are citing the latest report from Rep. Mike Rogers’ (R-MI) House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) to argue that the whole investigation should be shut down.

That’s the narrative previously promoted by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who also referred to the flawed HPSCI report’s assertion that it is a “definitive” accounting in his opening statement at Wednesday’s hearing..

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY

Senate Intelligence Committee Republicans and CIA Push Back on Feinstein Report
By SOF

Republican members of the Senate Intelligence Committee issued a rebuttal to the roughly 500-page “study” conducted by the Democratic majority on the committee. The Republicans, who pulled out of the Senate Intelligence Committee investigation in the fall of 2009, took issue with many of the assertions in Feinstein’s hit job.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the Republican report, signed by Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA - pictured right), Richard Burr (R-NC), James Risch (R-ID), Dan Coats (R-IN), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Tom Coburn (R-OK), states “We have no doubt the CIA’s detention program saved lives and played a vital role in weakening al-Qa’ida while the Program was in operation.”

FEINSTEIN RELEASES CIA REPORT

480-Page Hit Job on CIA Released
By SOF

Senator Dianne Feinstein, author of the 1994 semi-auto ban, released a 480-page summary of a 6,000-page “study” on interrogation techniques used in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, despite opposition from the CIA, State Department. Republicans pulled out of the investigation in 2009, and the report was done solely by Democratic staffers on the committee.

According to media reports, Feinstein’s report accuses the CIA of misleading Congress about the use of those techniques and by overstating the information obtained. The report, coming after years of partisan disputes, including allegations of computer hacking on the part of both the CIA and Democratic staffers on the intelligence committee, claims that at least 119 people were held in the CIA’s secret detention report.

Those who were killed and wounded during the 2009 terrorist attack at Fort Hood, as well as other domestic terrorist attacks, will now be recognized for their wounds under the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that is headed for passage in Congress.

According to a report by the Washington Examiner, the legislation will formally designate the 5 November, 2009 attack as a terrorist attack. The Obama Administration has maintained that the attack was “workplace violence,” despite admissions from Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the attack that it was intended as an act of terrorism.
