In 1992, the Cold War had ended. However, in Africa, things were starting to heat up as tensions held in check by the Cold War began to boil over. In other places, the Cold War was going out with a bang – not a whimper. Angola was one such place, where UNITA [National Union for the Total Independence of Angola], under Jonas Savimbi, refused to participate in the 1992 elections and tried to seize control.

PRIVATE MILITARY COMPANIES

Companies such as Executive Outcomes (EO), and other private military companies (PMCs) that followed in our tracks, would never have been able to operate across the world if the international community and the UN in particular had taken decisive action in so-called trouble spots or flash points. Time and time again, the UN blue-helmeted peacekeeping forces proved themselves incapable of doing the job.
