Iranian media report that two men have been executed, one of whom was put on trial following post-election unrest last year.  But human-rights groups and the man's lawyer say he was in prison before the protests began.  State media announced the executions of the two men early Thursday. The two are identified as Mohammad Reza Ali-Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour.  The semi-official ISNA news service and pro-government sources linked the men with nine others sentenced to death in connection with the unrest that followed the disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last year.

Britain's Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that government orders freezing the assets of terror suspects are unlawful.

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFNS) -- A three-person medical team from the Wright-Patterson Medical Center here is providing aeromedical evacuation support to assist victims of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The critical care air transport team, or CCATT, is staging from MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. with the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.

High-speed ferry ships MV Huakai and MV Alakai are preparing to sail to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response to provide disaster relief following the Jan. 12 earthquake. Huakai and Alakai were originally built to serve as passenger and vehicle ferries in Hawaii but were turned over to the Maritime Administration's custody when the ferry service went bankrupt. The ships will be under operational control of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) during Operation Unified Response. The ships' main tasks will be to transfer equipment and personnel in the region.

The Honduran Congress has approved amnesty for deposed President Manuel Zelaya and all those responsible for the coup that removed him from power. The vote past the legislature late Tuesday, just hours after a Honduran Supreme Court judge cleared senior military leaders of criminal charges for their roles in the coup that ousted Mr.

At his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Guinea's new Prime Minister, Jean-Marie Dore, promised to restructure the army and hold elections. Jean-Marie Dore assumed office as Guinea's new interim prime minister.  Outgoing Prime Minister Kabine Komara spoke at the ceremony. Mr. Komara asked his successor to consider restructuring Guinea's army.  He also spoke of the need to hold free and fair elections and to address Guinea's unemployment. Mr.

Christian churches in Malaysia are trying to cope with recent violence in the officially-Muslim, but religiously tolerant country. The violence followed a court ruling that overturned a government ban on the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.  A Roman Catholic publication led the fight to overturn the ban. Christians had used the word “Allah” for “God” for hundreds of years.  But some Muslims worried that the practice could encourage Muslim conversions to Christianity, something that is illegal in Malaysia.  Eleven Christian churches, a Sikh temple and a mosque have been attacked

The only Army Reserve aviation brigade, the 244th Aviation Brigade, has geared up to deploy troops and equipment to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response. More than 300 Soldiers from 244th Aviation Brigade will deploy today to support humanitarian operations in Haiti. Along with Soldiers, the 244th is sending nine CH-47 Chinook helicopters and four UH-60 Black Hawks. The CH-47 twin-engine, tandem heavy-lift helicopter is considered the workhorse of the Army and is designed for transportation of cargo and troops.

CREECH AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFNS) -- Approximately 50 Airmen from the 432nd Wing here, along with RQ-1 Predator assets, deployed Jan. 22 to assist 12th Air Force and Air Forces Southern officials with providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts in Haiti. "The Hunters of the 432nd were called upon to provide a vital ISR capability to assist the people of Haiti," said Col. Pete Gersten, 432nd Wing and 432nd Air Expeditionary Wing commander.
