USS Freedom Reaches Major Milestone Towards Maiden Deployment

The Navy's first littoral combat ship (LCS), USS Freedom (LCS 1), has successfully completed another major milestone in preparation for her upcoming maiden deployment. Freedom conducted independent ship deployment training and certification at sea from Nov. 13-21, operating with ships from the USS Dwight D.

Dover C-5Ms complete test in surge operations

The C-5M Super Galaxy team has completed another stage of operational test and evaluation with the conclusion of surge operations at Dover AFB. The surge operations consisted of 31 days of delivering essential cargo and flying sorties nonstop, from Dover AFB to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, without refueling to test wartime contingency operations. Department Focuses on F-35 Costs, Fair Tanker Competition

USNS Henson Locates Aircraft Wreckage in Caribbean

U.S. Navy oceanographic survey ship USNS Henson (T-AGS 63), currently deployed for Oceanographic Southern Partnership Station, located the sunken wreckage of an aircraft Nov. 30 in the waters of the Netherland Antilles that had been missing since late October. Henson, currently deployed in the Caribbean under the operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. 4th Fleet (NAVSO/C4F), was conducting oceanographic equipment testing operations near Curacao in the vicinity of the aircraft's last known coordinates.

Marine Expeditionary Unit, Kuwaiti Commandos participate in bilateral training exercise

VBSS is the term for maritime boarding actions designed to capture enemy vessels to combat terrorism, piracy and to conduct customs, safety and other inspections.
