IJC Operational Update, Jan. 7

An Afghan-international security force searched a compound west of the village of Akram Kaldy last night, in the Nawa district of Helmand after intelligence found insurgent activity in the area. During the search the assault force captured a Taliban facilitator suspected of manufacturing and placing IEDs and detained two other insurgents.

Airmen help Afghan National Army Air Corps soldiers take aim

An Afghan-international security force captured an insurgent commander and other militants in Kandahar last night. A joint security force went to a compound in the town of Adirah, in the Arghandab District after intelligence found militant activity in the area. During a search the joint force captured an insurgent commander involved in IED attacks and suicide bombings and other militants. In Khowst last night, a joint security force searched a compound in the village of Badi Kheyl and detained some insurgents.

Joint security teams killed two and arrested 21 suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) terrorists today during a series of coordinated security operations conducted in Mosul to weaken the terrorist network and prevent future attacks. Throughout the northern Iraqi city, ISF from Nineveh Province and U.S. advisors searched several buildings in order to locate and arrest suspected AQI members believed to be working within the top echelons of the terrorist group.

Forces Seize Drugs, Weapons in Afghanistan

Combined Afghan and International Security Forces uncovered an estimated 800 cubic meters of marijuana in Afghanistan's Kandahar province today and turned the drugs over to the Afghan national police for destruction. Forces also discovered and destroyed more than 130 rounds of ammunition in Ghazni province and three steel, explosive-filled cylinders in Helmand province over the past two days. Yesterday, combined forces detained an unspecified number of suspects following searches of compounds in separate operations in Helmand province and northern Kandahar City.
