Most of the time, an outgoing Congressman’s farewell speech tends to be a flowery good-bye. Not in the case of the outgoing chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, who slammed Congress for failing to support the troops.

“Right now, they are walking patrol in the mountains of Afghanistan,” McKeon said in his speech on the House floor in which he slammed the effects that the sequestration cuts have had on the troops.

Congress Acts To Recognize Troops Killed, Wounded in Domestic Terror Attacks

Those who were killed and wounded during the 2009 terrorist attack at Fort Hood, as well as other domestic terrorist attacks, will now be recognized for their wounds under the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that is headed for passage in Congress.

According to a report by the Washington Examiner, the legislation will formally designate the 5 November, 2009 attack as a terrorist attack. The Obama Administration has maintained that the attack was “workplace violence,” despite admissions from Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the attack that it was intended as an act of terrorism.

The FBI has warned that the terrorist group that calls itself the Islamic State is trying to target American military personnel through social media accounts. For Dakota Meyer, so much the better.

“If ISIS is using social media to track me, that’s a dream come true in my book,” the Medal of Honor recipient is quoted as saying by the Washington Free Beacon. “Hopefully one of these assholes actually shows up,” he added. “They’ll definitely get more than they want at my place!”

Wu-14 Designed For Nuclear Strike

The Chinese Communists have conducted their third test of a hypersonic weapon this year – this time seeing the missile reach speeds of Mach 10. The test took place earlier this week.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, the test of the Wu-14 involved the use of a ballistic missile that took the missile to almost 7,700 miles per hour. At that speed, it would travel from New York to Los Angeles in roughly 20 minutes. One analyst noted that while the Wu-14 needs far more testing to become an operational system, the ChiComs are clearly serious about deploying such weapons.

The Nigerian government ended a program in which American personnel were training Nigerian troops to combat the terrorist group.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, the program has ended amidst finger-pointing on both sides. The Nigerian government complained about a lack of intelligence sharing and weapons, in some cases due to American law prohibiting the training of certain units.

What Are You Doing to Our Navy?

Over a hundred retired admirals, and three retired Marine generals have written to Congress, calling for more support for the Navy. The letter comes as the United States is facing what could be a lengthy effort to beat back the terrorist group known as the Islamic State, and address numerous other crises and threats.

The admirals said that poor readiness and morale are serious dangers if the spending cuts are not reversed. The group admirals and generals, including former Marine Commandant James Conway, noted seven major operations, spanning from disaster relief in the Philippines to the fight against the Islamic State, int heir letter.

“We are concerned that if the Department of the Navy is required to continue to respond to crisis after crisis without the funding needed to build new ships, repair old equipment and provide routine maintenance to existing equipment, the nation risks permanent damage to our national defense and negative impacts on the domestic and international economies that rely on the safety and security that U.S. sea power provides,” the letter reads, According to a report by the Washington Examiner,
