Afghan-International Security Force Are Conducting a Joint Investigation Into Incident in Paktiya

The Interior Ministry and the International Security Assistance Force are conducting a joint investigation in the incident in Paktiya province in the Gardez district near the village of Khatabeh today. An Afghan-international security force detained a handful of suspected militants in Paktya province today while pursuing a Taliban commander responsible for weapons facilitation and several attacks in the area. The joint force searched a compound near the village of Payandegi in the Zurmat district where intelligence sources reported militant activity. They recovered several AK-47 rifles, chest racks, grenades, blasting caps and other IED making materials. In another operation today, a security force detained a Taliban facilitator and other militants in Nangarhar province.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 16: Taliban Commanders Detained in Wardak, Kandahar; Afghans Attend Writing Seminar; ISAF Casualties

An Afghan-international security force detained two Taliban commanders and another suspected militant in Wardak province today. These commanders are involved with IED activity and responsible for several attacks in the area. The joint force searched compounds near the village of Bhardokheyl where intelligence sources reported militant activity. The militants were detained without incident. In another operation, security forces detained a Taliban commander and a few other militants in western Kandahar province today.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 15: Taliban Commander Detained in Zabul; Militants Killed in Kandahar; ISAF Casualty

An Afghan-international security force detained a Taliban commander and other militants in Zabul province today. The Taliban commander is linked to IED facilitation and is responsible for several attacks in the area. The joint security force searched a compound in the provincial capital of Qalat where intelligence sources reported the commander to be located. The joint force searched the compound without incident and detained a few militants, one of whom identified himself as the targeted individual in the operation.

An Afghan-international security force detained a Haqqani weapons facilitator and a small group of other militants in Khowst province today. The facilitator is responsible for the supply and distribution of weapons to several militant elements in the area. The joint force searched a compound near the village of Paru Kheyl in the Sabari District where intelligence sources reported the facilitator to be located.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 11: Haqqani Facilitator Detained in Khowst; Security Discussed in Farah

An Afghan-international security force detained a couple of militants in Khowst province today, one of whom was a sought after Haqqani facilitator. The facilitator is responsible for the shipment and distribution of weapons to other militant elements in the area. The joint security force searched a compound near the village of Badal Kalay in the Nader Shakhot district where intelligence sources indicated the facilitator was located. The facilitator identified himself and surrendered without incident.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 10: Rebuilt Bridge Nears Completion

The reconstruction of a bridge destroyed in August is nearing completion due to the combined efforts of local government agencies, contractors and ISAF service members. Efforts to rebuild the Saracha Bridge along Highway 7 in Nangahar province began immediately after flash floods destroyed it and cut off all traffic from Torkham Gate to Jalalabad, Aug. 31. IJC Operational Update: International Security Assistance Force Denies Civilian Casualty Claim in Lagham; ISAF Casualty

An Afghan-international security force killed seven militants and detained four others in Laghman province early today while pursuing a Taliban IED facilitator responsible for several suicide attacks in the region. An international security force conducted an air strike today and destroyed a known Taliban stronghold consisting of bunkers and prepared defensive positions in Konar province. The security force targeted the stronghold near the village of Tsangar Darah in the mountainous Watapur District after intelligence sources indicated militant activity at the location. In other operations today, an Afghan-international security force in Khowst province detained a Haqqani IED cell leader and several other militants after searching a compound.

Operational Update, Dec. 4: Insurgents Detained in Kandahar

An Afghan-international security force detained several suspected militants in Kandahar province today after searching a compound known to be used by a Taliban facilitator. The joint security force targeted the compound near the village of Nurayo Kariz, approximately 10 miles northeast of Kandahar City in Arghandab district. The force searched the compound without incident and detained the militants, including the Taliban facilitator.

An Afghan-international security force detained several suspected militants in Wardak province while pursuing a Taliban sub-commander today. The joint security force targeted a compound near the village of Jamad Kheyl in the Sayed Abad district after intelligence sources indicated militant activity.

International forces conducted an air strike against a Taliban commander in a remote area of eastern Afghanistan yesterday. The Taliban commander was the target of the precision strike in Kunar province's Dara Noor District, which occurred in an open area away from civilian compounds or infrastructure.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 1: Reconstruction in Zabul Province; Casualty Update

The ISAF Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team, mid-way through its nine-month tour, has completed nearly 40 projects this year. Operational for several years, the Zabul PRT assists the Afghan government with improving stability through governance, reconstruction and development. The Zabul PRT is a diverse organization with joint, interagency and international components. "The PRT It is one of the principal counter-insurgency units in the region and part of the larger ISAF effort to bring stability to Zabul province," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Andy Veres, PRT commander.

IJC Operational Update: Nov. 30: Thousands of Hats Delivered to Afghan Children

ISAF service members serving in the Lithuanian-led provincial reconstruction team in western Afghanistan distributed thousands of handmade hats to schoolchildren in Ghowr province Nov. 25. Almost 2,000 hats were given to Afghan children in Chaghcharan by members of the PRT during the final phase of the project, "Warm Hats for Afghan Children." The project began in August, when Lithuanian service members asked their countrymen and women to knit hats for Afghan children to wear during the winter months.
