SYRIA GOING TO HELL?
One Opposition Leader Quits, Another Wounded in Blast
By Harold Hutchison
The Syrian opposition has descended into chaos, as one opposition leader resigned, and another was wounded in a bomb blast. The chaos comes as Secretary of State John Kerry asked the Iraqi government to stop Iranian arms shipments to Syria.
Syrian National Coalition leader Mouaz al-Khatib resigned – announcing it on his Facebook page. Khatib cryptically announced he was keeping a promise to quit if certain actions were taken. The appointment of Ghassan Hitto as interim prime minister over his opposition had caused problems, especially as the Free Syrian Army denounced him as a pawn of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood.
Khatib also complained about the lack of assistance from the international community. In addition, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported that rebel commander Riad al-Asaad was wounded when a car bomb went off. Riad-al-Assad’s leg was reportedly severed in the attack.
