The international agency charged with enforcing the Chemical Weapons convention is claiming that Syria has met its first deadline as imposed by the agreement that headed off an attack by the United States.
According to media reports, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has visited 39 of 41 facilities, and has said it is “satisfied that it has verified -- and seen destroyed -- all of Syria's declared critical production and mixing/filling equipment.”
The OPCW won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, and is carrying out inspections in Syria under an agreement brokered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
