STORMING THE UKRAINIANS!
Russian Troops Storm Ukrainian Base in Crimea
By Harold Hutchison
Members of a militia loyal to Russia stormed a Ukrainian military base near Sevastopol, where the Russian Black Sea Fleet is based. The assault comes as Putin mocked the West, at the same time threatening to turn off natural gas supplies to Europe.
According to a report by haaretz.com, the Russian militia rammed the gates of the base and seized control. No shots were fired. A few dozen Ukrainian soldiers are reportedly holding out in bunkers at the base. Meanwhile, Gazprom announced it was reducing natural gas exports to Kiev. Russia has cut the flow in the past, creating crises in 2006 and 2009.
The United States sent six F-15 Eagle air-superiority fighters to Lithuania to bolster air defenses over Lithuania and the other Baltic republics of Estonia and Latvia. The destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) was also deployed to the Black Sea.
