The Spanish Legion, Spain’s most elite fighting unit, is the realization of the dream of one man, a soldier, adventurer and romantic idealist, José y Millàn-Astray Terreros. He was inspired by the military glory of Spain of past centuries, the time of the Conquistadors and of the Tercios of Flanders. Millàn-Astray wanted to form a brotherhood of warriors, a military unit composed solely of volunteers from all nationalities and all walks of life.
