1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division's 49-year-old combat surgeon, Capt. Douglas 'Doc' Powell, affectionately referred to as 'Doc' throughout Task Force Raider, gave up a successful, lucrative job to serve on the front lines of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
