Capture Stolen Tanker
By Harold Hutchison

An oil tanker hijacked by Libyan rebels was re-taken by Navy SEALs from SEAL Team Two in an operation. The takedown ended a hijacking crisis that started earlier this month.

According to media reports, the North Korean-flagged tanker Morning Glory and a cargo of crude oil. The SEALs launched from the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), and took control of the vessel, which the Department of Defense called “a stateless vessel” in a release, without firing a shot.

The three hijackers are now in custody and will be turned over to the Libyan government. Sailors from the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Stout (DDG 55) are helping to sail the tanker back to Libya.

Last year, American special operations forces captured a senior member of al-Qaeda in Tripoli.
