Recognizing the Monford Point Marines
African-American Marines, whose service in World War II has been widely ignored, are soon to receive recognition from the Marine Corps.
According to a report from Officialwire.com, the Monford Point Marines will be the subject of a resolution to award a Congressional Gold Medal on Tuesday. The Marine Corps will also be teaching all Marines about the Monford Point Marines in 2012, according to reports.
General James Amos, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, is pushing the Marines to diversify. The Marines recently named an African-American general to command the 1st Marine Division.
