Third Strike in Three Days
By Harold Hutchison
For the third time in three days, an American UAV has carried out a strike against al-Qaeda terrorists in Yemen. The strike reportedly killed six militants, and is the sixth UAV strike in two weeks.
The flurry of strikes comes in the midst of a terror alert that lead the United States to close 19 embassies for a week, with the embassy in Yemen being evacuated of most of its personnel. The terror alert came about after an intercept of a communication between al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Naser al-Wuhayhi.
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been tied to several attacks and failed attacks, including an attempted downing of an airliner of Christmas Day, 2009, the attack on Fort Hood in November, 2009, and a 2010 plot to slip bombs onto planes.
