Original Release Date: September 2012

E-mails between House Oversight Committee staffers and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration indicate that a report that acknowledged inappropriate scrutiny of conservative groups was slated for a September, 2012 release. In addition, the IG’s office knew of inappropriate targeting in July.
According to a report by National Review Online, the e-mails could raise questions as to why the report’s release was delayed. In a 24 September, 2012 e-mail, one House Oversight Committee staffer wrote, “You mentioned your report would be ready in September. Any update for us?”
The response was that there was still field work going on related to the audit. Additional committee staff inquiries in December 2012 and February 2013 were met with claims of further delays.
