Israeli military sources have confirmed that the top commander of the Islamist Hamas militant group was killed Wednesday when a car he was traveling in was targeted by an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said Ahmed al-Jaabari, who ran the organization's armed wing, died along with a passenger after their car was targeted by an Israeli missile.
Israel's Shin Bet intelligence service said Jaabari was killed because of his "decade-long terrorist activity."
