Lawmaker Planned Armed Rebellion
By Harold Hutchison
A South Korean lawmaker is under arrest and charged with treason after authorities broke up a plot to overthrow the South Korean government in favor of the Kim Jong Un regime in North Korea.
Lee Seok-ki, whose Unified Progressive Party holds six seats in the South Korean parliament and takes a very pro-North Korean stance, was charges with three of his colleagues of violating the National Security Law. The four are accused of planning an armed revolution should a second Korean War break out.
The South Korean parliament stripped Lee and his alleged co-conspirators of their immunity as members of the legislature. North Korean regime has denied any involvement with the plot.
