Indictment Under Espionage Act
By Harold Hutchison
Edward Snowden, the self-proclaimed whistleblower who admitted handing over classified documents to London Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald has been charged with espionage. The charges, in a sealed indictment, now up the stakes in the growing controversy over the NSA's surveillance programs.
Snowden fled to Hong Kong after smuggling the documents out on a thumb drive. Snowden revealed himself as the leaker on 9 June in a video posted on the London Guardian's web site.
