Applying for Asylum to Russia in the Meantime
By Harold Hutchison
Self-proclaimed whistleblower Edward Snowden announced that he was accepting asylum offers from Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua, while also applying for asylum from Russia. Snowden has been in the transit zone of Sheremetyevo Airport since 23 June.
Snowden had earlier pulled an asylum request from Russia over the condition that he cease his leaking of documents. Snowden’s revelations have revealed NSA operations in China, Russia, and Latin America.
Snowden was joined by representatives of human rights groups as he made the statement.
