Leaked Docs Reportedly Used to Attack Romney During Campaign

The growing scandal surrounding IRS harassment of Tea Party groups took new turns as it was revealed that some Democratic Senators who denounced the scandal had requested IRS reviews earlier, including Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucas (D-MT). Baucas’s Committee is one of those that has oversight over the IRS.
Other Senators tied to letters demanding IRS reviews were Charles Schumer (D-NY), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Tom Udall (D-NM), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Al Franken (D-MN). Schumer is the third-ranking Democrat and heads the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.
Also breaking is speculation that information from a leaked Form 990 of the National Organization for Marriage was used by Joe Solmonese, a former president of the Human Rights Campaign and a 2012 Obama campaign co-chair to attack Mitt Romney. The document is believed to have been leaked from the IRS.
“On each page of the return is stamped a document ID of ‘100560209.’ Only the IRS would have the Form 990 with ‘Official Use’ information,” NOM President Brian Brown said in an April 2012 statement.
