Barack Obama has been secretly easing sanctions regarding on Iran intended to cripple their nuclear program in the wake of the election of Hassan Rouhani, according to a report by the Daily Beast. The report comes as Iran claims that Western nations have accepted their framework for nuclear talks.
According to the report, the Treasury Department has issued significantly fewer designations of individuals to be subjected to sanctions since Rouhani’s election on 14 June. Rouhani succeeded Mahmoud Ahamadinejad. According to earlier media reports, Rouhani had been involved in the planning of the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aries, Argentina. A 2006 indictment named him as a member of the committee that approved the attack.
“For five months, since Rouhani’s election, the United States has offered Iran two major forms of sanctions relief,” Mark Dubowitz, the executive director of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, said. “First there’s been a significant slowdown in the pace of designations while the Iranians are proliferating the number of front companies and cutouts to bust sanctions.” Dubowitz went on to say that Obama’s other form relief came by opposing new sanctions.
"Israel is not obliged by this agreement and Israel will do everything it needs to do to defend itself and the security of its people," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayahu said. Fox News strategic analyst Ralph Peters also criticized reports of a deal calling it “idiotic” and saying that the deal marks the abandonment of Israel by the United States.
