Ban on AK Parts Included in Executive Order

It seems that as part of the latest round of sanctions targeting Russia for its support of pro-Russian separatists in the Ukraine, gun owners are caught in the middle. Some Russian companies hit by the sanctions have been in the American firearms market.
According to media reports, when Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13662, it not only targeted Russian financial and energy companies, it also targeted Izhmash and Kalashnikov, a pair of Russian firearms manufacturers. The order also bars the importation of parts for AK-47-type rifles, even those used for repairs.
The order only affects future importation – so any firearms or parts currently in the United States are legal to own. Senator Dianne Feinstein wrote Obama a letter in March, urging a ban on certain types of semi-automatic firearms.
