Schumer’s Booby Trap, De Facto Registration Still Alive
By Harold Hutchison
The gun bill headed to the floor of the United States will contain a plan for so-called “universal background checks” that would amount to de facto gun registration. The legislation will likely be debated in April.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced the bill, authored by Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) will be headed to the floor. The decision gives gun-grabbers some hope after Reid had earlier announced that a ban on certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition would only be offered as amendments.
Anti-gun activists had hoped to push through sweeping legislation in the wake of the 14 December, 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 children and six adults were killed.
