U.S., Japan, Prepare Plans to Defend Senkaku Islands
By Harold Hutchison
Aggressive actions by the Chinese Communists have lead the United States and Japan to make plans to defend – or recapture – a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea in the event of a ChiCom invasion
According to VOANews.com, the plans center around the Senkaku Islands, which have been the center of a territorial dispute. General Shigeru Iwasaki, the chief of staff of the Japanese Self Defense Forces Joint Staff, is meeting with America’s top military commander in the Pacific, Admiral Admiral Samuel Locklear.
The Senkaku Islands are surrounded by potential oil and gas resources, and there are also rich fishing grounds in the region. Chinese vessels and aircraft have been probing the region in recent months.
