Three Americans Killed by Hospital Security Guard

Three American doctors were killed during an insider – or “green on blue” – attack on a hospital in the Afghan capital of Kabul. The Cure International Hospital reported that at least one other person, a nurse, was wounded.
According to media reports, this was the second “green on blue” attack to target Western civilians as opposed to NATO troops. Earlier this month, a journalist with the Associated Press was killed in an attack carried out by an Afghan police officer.
The American embassy in Kabul confirmed that three Americans were killed. Media reports indicated that two of them were a father and son, and that one of the slain doctors had been working at the Cure International Hospital for seven years.
“Those killed in the attack were humanitarian workers dedicated to improving the lives of Afghans by providing a full range of medical services including reconstructive surgery to children with physical disabilities and pre- and post-natal care for mothers. This act of terror has deprived the citizens of Afghanistan of valuable medical expertise,” a statement by the American embassy in Kabul said. “We offer our condolences and sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured while selflessly working towards a better future for the people of Afghanistan.”
According to the organization’s website, Cure International operates ten hospitals worldwide, including the one in Kabul.
