A police officer has been killed and another wounded in a grenade attack following a political rally by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in northwestern Turkey.
A police car accompanying a bus carrying officials from Mr. Erdogan's Justice and Development Party came under attack by unknown gunmen Wednesday in the city of Kastamonu. The attackers threw hand grenades at the vehicle and sprayed it with bullets, causing it to catch fire.
The prime minister had already left the rally in a helicopter on the way to his next campaign stop in nearby Amasya. Speaking in Amasya soon after, Mr. Erdogan called the attackers “separatists.”
Kurdish and Islamist militants have frequently carried out gun and bomb attacks across Turkey.
