Half of $6.6 Million Total from Small Donors
By Harold Hutchison
The gun-control group formed by former Representative Gabrielle Giffords has raised over $6.5 million in donations. The organization, Americans for Responsible Solutions, is pushing for new gun laws.
Half of the donations came from what are viewed as small donors – a sign that this organization could be building some sort of grassroots network. The organization reports that it has only spent about $1.8 million to date – leaving it with over $4.5 million in cash on hand.
The anti-gun group has, though, received six-figure donations from New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Meyer, Tech entrepreneur Sean Parker, and Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff. A law firm also made a six-figure donation.
