Busy Day for ISAF
By Harold Hutchison
ISAF and Afghan forces searching for a Taliban facilitator in Nangarhar province wound up in a firefight with insurgents, killing two and capturing nine.
The engagement overshadows the capture of another three Taliban leaders, two of whom were nabbed by a joint Afghan-coalition force in Helmand province. One of the Taliban leaders was orchestrating assassinations of Afghan National Security Force members, overseeing attacks on Afghan Local Police checkpoints and directing attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The other Taliban leader was involved in the acquisition and transfer of multiple heavy weapons and improvised explosive devices to Taliban fighters operating in Nahr-e Saraj district.
A third Taliban leader was captured in Kunduz province. This leader coordinated IED attacks and also provided financial and logistical support to other insurgents.
