Apparent Split Between State, Pentagon
By Harold Hutchison
John Kerry was slapped down by Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, when he began urging for air strikes against airfields used by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashir al-Assad. Kerry’s demands continued until Dempsey spoke up.
According to a report by Bloomberg News, Dempsey pointed out that taking down Syria’s air defense system would take over 700 sorties. Dempsey also told Kerry that his demands for involvement in a civil war were not welcomed when the military is suffering from sequestration cutbacks.
Do you think General Dempsey was correct to slap down Kerry?
