International Security Assistance Force confirmed the death of Haji Malang, a Taliban leader, during an operation to detain him Tuesday, in Nad ‘Ali District, Helmand province.
Malang was responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of numerous small arms and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces,
Multiple intelligence reports and tips from local citizens led the joint security force to the Taliban leader’s compound. After the joint security force secured the perimeter of the compound they used loudspeakers to conduct a series of call-outs allowing the occupants to exit peacefully.
Malang was one of two armed insurgents that were killed when they threatened the security force upon exiting the building.
