Soldiers from 3rd Company, 1st Commando Kandak and Special Operations Task Force – East discovered multiple weapon caches during clearing operations in Shalay Valley, Khas Konar district, Konar province, April 19.
The valley is a safe haven for insurgents who conduct mortar attacks on Coalition bases in the area and has seen an increase in violent activities since the beginning of spring.
The caches included eight AK-47 assault rifles, 33 bolt-action rifles, approximately 3,000 rounds of ammunition, 20 magazines, four fighting vests and one pistol.
