Try to Beat Deadline
By Harold Hutchison
Gun-grabbing politicians in Chicago are ramming new gun bans into law prior to a deadline that will preempt the passage of new local gun laws. Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of the city, called a special session that enacted an expanded gun and magazine ban.
Many of the anti-gun politicians stated their goal was to make exercising concealed carry rights so difficult that people would not bother in the Windy City. Illinois passed a concealed carry law after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled that the state’s blanket prohibition violated the Second Amendment.
Illinois governor Pat Quinn’s amendatory veto, which included onerous restrictions on carrying concealed, was overridden by the state legislature.
