Majority Leader Cantor to also Support Attack
By Harold Hutchison
House Speaker John Boehner has come out in support of a strike on the regime of Syrian dictator Bashir Assad in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons. The announcement comes as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee announced it would hold hearings on a resolution authorizing the use of force.
The attack killed over 1,400 people, including hundreds of children. The evidence tying the Syrian regime to the attack has been disputed by Russia, and some sources claim that the Syrian rebels are using chemical weapons. The Syrian rebels opposing Assad’s regime include al-Qaeda fighters. Assad is allied with the Iranian government, which has a long history of supporting terrorist attacks.
Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have also been urging military action – going far beyond limited measures.
