Can We Trust it With Anything More Dangerous than a Snow-Cone?
By Harold Hutchison
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, already reeling from slimy store-front stings that exploited mentally disabled individuals and Operation Fast & Furious, is now reeling with a new public-relations disaster. This time, it involves losing firearms.
According to a report by Breitbart News, an investigation by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has uncovered dozen of instances where ATF agents have been grossly negligent involving loaded firearms. In one case, an ATF agent lost a loaded gun and failed to report it until a local news outlet broadcast a story about children playing with a loaded firearm!
Numerous other firearms went missing as well, including firearms left in bathrooms, or on top of their cars when they drove off. An ATF spokesperson told the Journal-Sentinel that agents of that law-enforcement agency are solely responsible for securing firearms. Neither Breitbart News nor the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel had any reports on whether the ATF agents responsible for losing the guns and endangering children were punished.
Will Congress step in to address this growing pattern of ATF recklessness?
