ChiCom Ships Probe Area
By Harold Hutchison
Chinese Communist ships again sailed near the Senkaku Islands, which are the subject of a maritime territorial dispute between Japan and the ChiComs. The ChiCom probe occurred as Japanese citizens were in the area to survey the islands.
The ChiCom group of ships was the largest since tensions increased in September, 2012. Three ships in the area were quickly joined by five more.
Japanese Prime Minister told Japanese lawmakers, "We have made sure that if there is an instance where there is an intrusion into our territory or it seems that there could be landing on the islands, then we will deal with it strongly.”
The Senkaku islands not only are rich fishing grounds, but there may be energy resources as well.
