Iraqi Security Forces arrested 13 suspected terrorists Monday during three joint security operations conducted in Baghdad and northern Iraq targeting several suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) members.
In southeastern Baghdad, ISF and U.S. advisors searched several residential buildings for a suspected member of an AQI cell that conducts kidnappings and attacks against security forces in Iraq.
Preliminary questioning results and evidence collected at the scene led ISF to arrest two suspected criminal associates of the warranted AQI member.
During a separate security operation conducted approximately 48 km northeast of Baghdad in Baqubah, the 3rd Emergency Response Unit and U.S. advisors searched several residential buildings for three warranted AQI members.
In one of the buildings, the security team found two handguns and a silencer, used often in assassinations.
Evidence collected at the scene resulted in the arrest of nine suspected criminal associates of the warranted individuals.
During a third security operation conducted in a rural area located approximately 179 km northwest of Baghdad, Iraqi Police and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for a suspected AQI member believed to be responsible for Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosives Device attacks throughout the Haditha area.
Iraqi Police arrested two suspected criminal associates of the wanted AQI member.
