While Seattle-area Liberals have joined the rush to blame conservatives and Constitutionally-affirmed gun rights for the shooting of Arizona Rep. More Violence as South Sudanese Vote in Landmark Referendum

Southern Sudanese officials say 10 people were killed in an attack near the north-south border, as people continue to flood polling stations to vote in a landmark referendum on southern Sudan's independence.

Southern Internal Affairs Minister Gier Chuang says Arab tribesmen ambushed a bus carrying a group of southern Sudanese from the north to the south, killing 10 people and wounding 18 others.

Clinton Backs Yemeni Efforts Against al-Qaida

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in an unusual high-level U.S. visit to Yemen Tuesday, said the two countries have a mutual interest in defeating the Yemeni affiliate of al-Qaida. The Clinton visit was not announced in advance because of security considerations. The secretary of state also met with Yemen's president, Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Clinton, who arrived in Yemen from Dubai amid heavy security, is the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the country since former Vice President Dick Cheney visited in 2002, and the first secretary of state to do so since 1990.

WikiLeaks Will Continue Leaking Documents

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said his group plans to accelerate its publication of secret U.S. diplomatic cables and other documents.

Assange said WikiLeak's work will continue "unabated."

He spoke to reporters outside a London court where he appeared Tuesday as part of his fight to avoid extradition to Sweden for questioning on allegations of sexual misconduct.

Tuesday's hearing was mostly procedural. A full extradition hearing will take place in February.

ISAF Joint Command operational update

Two Afghan civilians were killed in an improvised explosive device attack insurgent caused in Pusht-e Rod district, Farah province, Jan. 11.

An Afghan National Army patrol responded to the scene of the blast to investigate the incident. During the exploitation of the blast site the Afghan Army patrol came under fire from numerous enemy positions. Afghan forces returned fire dispersing the insurgents.

Numerous insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Force in southern and eastern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

ISAF confirms status of Taliban leaders

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed two Taliban leaders have been killed while a third Taliban leader was detained during Afghan and coalition operations in Kunar and Kunduz provinces Jan. 8 and 9.

Qari Baryal, al-Qaida-associated Taliban leader was killed in a coalition air strike Jan. 7 in Kunar province. He was an active attack planner who led at least 25 fighters. Additionally, he maintained close contact with al-Qaida leaders and facilitators.
