U.S. Forces Show Reach in Crises Response

The U.S. military demonstrated its global reach and effectiveness in the past month of crises, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said.

The U.S. military is probably the only organization in the world that could have handled the demands of providing assistance to the people of Japan in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami while also preventing a massacre in Benghazi, Libya.

Senate to Consider Bill to Fill Federal Gun Positions with Political Hacks

Shortly, the U.S. Senate will consider legislation to take a number of key gun-related offices in the Department of Justice and remove them from the requirement of Senate confirmation. The legislation is sponsored by anti-gun zealot Charles Schumer (D-NY) and weak-kneed Republican Lamar Alexander (R-TN).

S. 679 would give Barack Obama the ability to fill major gun-related Department of Justice slots with anti-gun partisans, without the pesky inconvenience of having to comply with the Constitution's requirements for Senate confirmation.

UN Refugee Chief Warns Ivory Coast Conflict Could Spillover to Liberia

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, warns the conflict in Ivory Coast could spillover to Liberia and have a major destabilizing affect in all of West Africa. The refugee chief has just returned from a series of missions, including one to Liberia at the border with Ivory Coast.

U.N. refugee chief, Antonio Guterres, calls Ivory Coast one of the most dramatic displacement crises in the world. As of now, the U.N. refugee agency has registered more than 120,000 Ivorian refugees in Liberia and several thousand more in Ghana, Togo and Guinea.

Seminar Unites Nations During Piracy Talks

Naval leaders from twelve Southeast Asian countries attended the annual Senior Leaders Seminar (SLS) March 29 through April 1, in Bangkok, Thailand, for in-depth discussions on piracy and counter-piracy operations.

The conference was co-hosted by the U.S. and Royal Thai navies, and combined naval leaders from Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Sri-Lanka and Vietnam.

ISAF Joint Command morning operational update

An Afghan and coalition force killed several Taliban insurgents and detained several suspected insurgents in Sayad district, Sar-e Pul province, yesterday.

The target of the operation was a Taliban insurgent who is the shadow governor for Sar-e Pul province and key power broker in the north. He has ties to foreign fighter facilitation and suicide training camps operating in the province.
