Uruguayan Senate Annuls Amnesty for Dictatorship Crimes

Lawmakers in Uruguay have voted narrowly to annul an amnesty for crimes against humanity committed during the country's 1973 to 1985 dictatorship.

By a margin of 16 to 15, the Senate voted late Tuesday to overturn the measure, known as the Expiry Law. The bill now goes to the lower house for minor changes. Lawmakers spent more than 12 hours debating the bill before putting it to a vote.

Kandahar Air Wing achieves medical evacuation milestone

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFNS) -- A combined team of Afghan air force and coalition members conducted the first dedicated Mi-17 medical evacuation mission April 11 here.

The team moved an Afghan National Army officer, who incurred a compound leg fracture, from Camp Bastion back to Kandahar.

Maysan Province Iraqi Police conduct riot-control training

Over 50 members of the Iraqi Police (IP) Emergency Response Unit in Maysan Province are now better prepared to react to riots and organized protests after receiving riot-control training by the "Warhorse" troopers of 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

The Riot-Control Training Course is focused toward enhancing the Iraq Police and Emergency Response Unit basics of civil disorder management as it pertains to frontline personnel.

Sri Lanka Rejects UN War Crimes Report

Sri Lanka's government has sharply criticized a new United Nations report investigating atrocities allegedly committed during the final months of the country's civil war.

Sri Lanka's foreign ministry said Wednesday the report, which has not yet been made public, was “fundamentally flawed.” In a statement, the ministry accused the U.N. panel of basing the report on “patently biased material, which is presented without any verification.”

US Drone Strike Kills 6 in Pakistan

Pakistani officials say two U.S. drone missile strikes killed six militants Wednesday in the tribal region along the Afghan border.

The strikes, which hit vehicles in South Waziristan, were the first reported drone strikes since a controversial March 17 attack that killed up to 40 people.

Pakistan's army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, strongly condemned the March incident, underscoring recent tension between Pakistan and the United States.
