Platoon trains to recover isolated personnel

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — A platoon with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit learned the importance of recovering troops trapped behind enemy lines during a course here Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

Third Platoon, Company L, transported by the unit's aviation combat element, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 (Reinforced), participated in classroom lectures, practical applications and simulated full-scale missions during the four-day Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel course.

South Pole airdrop delivers critical medical supplies in total darkness

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AFNS) -- Airmen with the 304th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron here airdropped urgently needed medical supplies Sept. 1 at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica.

The supplies will augment a South Pole medical team's treatment of an ailing civilian wintering there with the U.S. Antarctic Program.

Building blocks of infantry; starting with basics

Third Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion finished up a 10-day training exercise, known as the Basic Infantry Individual Skills Package, at the Combat Center’s training ranges Aug. 30, 2011.

The mechanized infantry battalion brought their training down to the basics of an infantryman.
