Investigations Halted

A new scandal rocked the Obama Administration – and it is a second scandal centering on the State Department. This time, the scandal centers around allegations of multiple cover-ups of criminal conduct.

According to CBS News, Diplomatic Security Service agents were ordered to stop investigating criminal activity ranging from drug rings to soliciting prostitutes. The criminal activity is seen as a potential threat to national security – largely due to the risk that hostile intelligence services could exploit it.

A 29-year-old former NSA contractor calling himself a “whistle-blower” has claimed he provided details of the NSA’s surveillance programs for both phone calls and the internet to London Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald. Edward Snowden came forward over the weekend, and is on record as having donated to Ron Paul’s 2012 campaign. He had held off disclosing because he believed Obama would rein in the programs.

This includes direct tapping into servers of internet companies by the National Security Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The NSA/FBI program, called PRISM, involves access to the servers of tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo.
